“First blush” changes to silk process this year

Quick summary of changes to the silk process this year:

  • There is a limit of 2,930 characters per competency – this is about 400-500 words MAX – it used to be around 700 words
  • New pdf version of the application form which is now in landscape not portrait – you will need Adobe Reader to complete it – PLEASE TEST SAVING AND RE-OPENING THE FORM EARLY ON SO THAT YOU DO NOT LOSE WORK OR HAVE TO STRUGGLE WITH IT CLOSE TO THE DEADLINE, AS WE HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH IT ON SOME PCs – if you cannot get it to work, contact QCA asap so that your problem can be resolved soonest rather than the day before the deadline
  • 12 cases, not fewer, of most important cases in last 2 years is what they are aiming for
  • Name at least 8, and up to 12, judges
  • Name 6 practitioners
  • Name at least 4, and up to 6, clients
  • Need good reason if don’t have the number of assessors, number of cases or if need to go to 3 years
  • You can send skeletons to assessors and we would encourage you to do so
  • Integrity – Guidelines say there is normally no need to complete this section – if you have examples, use them
  • There used to be a list of relevant jurisdictions within the guidelines that has disappeared this year – make sure you ring the QCA if you have Qs about that
  • Fees are the lowest they have ever been this year

We would also recommend that you read the reports from the last competition including the detailed review of the competencies via link below.
